It was time! I could hardly stand it! I would be meeting up with 3 of my high school best buds to have a weekend together at a local Bed and Breakfast, planning our 40th class reunion for next year. We decided to first meet at the Vernonia Pioneer Museum where not only the OA Mill history is preserved, but also some of our personal family history.
My own personal family history was found...I was hoping it was still there. It was Dad's taxidermy work. He donated several of his pieces years ago and they are still on display.
After time at the museum, we decided we should check in at the Old Mill House Inn owned by one of our VHS friends and her husband, Brooke and David. Brooke, however was not there as her daughter was having a baby on the East Coast and she wanted to be there for the event. David, however, stayed behind to hold the fort down.
Marsha and I bunked in the "Pebble Creek" room. It was so quaint and beautifully decorated with such care to detail.
Now checked in, it was time to PLAY and we were off to Lake Vernonia for a walk. Yeah, I know that doesn't sound like playing, but wait until you see what we do before you judge! =o] Oh, and I don't normally wear my tennies with leopard print! (photos below by Kathi)
Okay...so what did you expect from 56 and 57 year olds, anyway?? =o] We soon entered the building in the background. It is the "Fuel House" left behind from the OA Mill. I haven't been inside it since I was a kid! It was quite magical...trees growing up through the open roof, graffiti lining the bottom quarter of the walls and the acoustics were truly amazing inside. What a playground for us...you will soon understand that statement later in my blog.
Here is a little taste of some of the playing around we did! Click on the link below:
